Route to the Gulebi Fortress
The highlight of this route is the stunning views from the summit, 1,100 meters above sea level
about the location
The Gulebi Fortress dates back to the 12th–13th centuries. It served as an important defensive structure to protect the region from enemy attacks. “Gulebi” means “hearts” in Georgian. Legend has it that the hearts of eight conquerors—who were never able to overcome the fortress and its warriors—were hung on the fortress walls.

about the weather
The weather around the Gulebi Fortress changes in tune with the rhythm of the mountains. Summers here are warmer than in other seasons, but the heat is rarely stifling. The elevation of 1,100 meters above sea level brings a light breeze that tempers the heat, and the evenings become particularly cool. The forest surrounding the fortress rustles in the gusts of wind, and it seems as though nature itself is guarding the ancient walls.

Fall brings with it coolness and vibrant colors. The forests around the fortress blaze with gold and crimson, and the air becomes fresh and humid. It rains more often, and the roads become slippery, but it is precisely at this time that the fortress looks especially mysterious, shrouded in mist and the soft light of the setting sun.

In winter, the weather is harsh. Temperatures drop, and sometimes snow falls, covering the ruins with a white blanket. The wind whistles between the stones, and the forest falls silent, sleeping until spring. On days like these, the fortress seems forgotten and wild, like a memory of times long past.
The route is about 4 km one way, with an elevation gain of 700 m, if you drive a regular car. On the way from Batumi, you can stop by the Makhuntseti or Kapnistavi waterfalls.
