exploratory trip
Paleontological Field Trip
Let's go look for ancient sea urchins dating back 72–110 million years and minerals

. Children ages 7 and up are welcome.
  • What will you find?
Under the guidance of an experienced instructor, you’ll be able to find fossils from the Cretaceous period: sea urchin spines, sea urchins themselves, and fragments of Inoceramus shells—and you might even come across some interesting minerals
  • you'll learn a lot of new things
about how the local mountains were formed, why the ammonites went extinct, and how many years it takes for "the sea to turn to stone." Let's talk about geology and paleontology—it's a very engaging and interesting lecture.
Our route takes us through the area around Zugdidi, where we’ll enjoy beautiful views in every direction; we’ll take a walk along the river and look for fossils and minerals.
Program
Departure
We'll leave Batumi at 8–9 a.m., and we'll enjoy some very scenic views along the way. We'll stop along the way to stretch our legs. The drive will take about 2.5 hours.
Searching for Fossils
We arrive at the fossil-hunting site (near the car) and listen to a detailed lecture on paleontology and the formation of Georgia’s landscape. Then we set out to search for fossils, taking a break for a picnic along the way. We discuss our first finds! About 3–4 hours.

Your guide will tell you everything and show you how to search properly and what to look for. They’ll also be sure to explain what you’ve found and how it ended up in the rock.
nature
Part of the search will take place along a beautiful river, where you can dip your feet in the water, enjoy the cool breeze, and take in the views.
If we have a little time left, we’ll stop by another river on the way to look for agates.

After that, we’ll head back to Batumi. We’ll arrive in the city around 9–10 p.m.
Our itinerary has been carefully planned down to the last detail, but nature has its own way of things. Some parts of the route may be rearranged depending on the weather and other factors—so that each destination is revealed to us in the best possible light.

This flexibility allows us to make the trip even more comfortable and enriching!
