exploratory trip
Paleontological Field Trip

  • What will you find?
  • you'll learn a lot of new things
about how the local mountains were formed, why the ammonites went extinct, and how many years it takes for "the sea to turn to stone."
Program
Departure
We'll leave Batumi at 9 a.m., and we'll enjoy some very scenic views along the way. We'll stop along the way to stretch our legs. The drive will take about 3 hours.
Searching for Fossils
We arrive at the fossil-hunting site (near the car) and listen to a detailed lecture on paleontology and the formation of Georgia’s landscape. Then we set out to search for fossils, taking a break for a picnic along the way. We discuss our first finds! About 3–4 hours.

Your guide will tell you everything and show you how to search properly and what to look for. They’ll also be sure to explain what you’ve found and how it ended up in the rock.
walk

Our itinerary has been carefully planned down to the last detail, but nature has its own way of things. Some parts of the route may be rearranged depending on the weather and other factors—so that each destination is revealed to us in the best possible light.

This flexibility allows us to make the trip even more comfortable and enriching!

You can hike these trails even if you have no hiking experience.

We won't be doing much walking here. That's why we accept children ages 7 and up.

The scale is relative; use the distance and elevation gain as a guide.

One of these guides will be leading this tour; you can check the schedule to see who it is or ask the managers for more information.

  • Alex
He has 20 years of hiking experience under his belt (not counting the backpack itself), including Category 5 water routes.

  • Fyodor
    гид
He went on his first hike at age 11—with a cotton-padded sleeping bag and his grandmother’s sweater.
He has experience with winter, water, and mountain hikes of varying difficulty levels. He loves wild trails, swamps, rhododendron thickets, spending the night in a snow den, trail races, boxing, and swimming in icy water.
On hikes, he values good spirits, the beauty of the wilderness, humor, pushing his limits, and hot tea after a long day of hiking.
