There are nights that are truly worth traveling far away from the city for—nights we look forward to all year long.
We’ll head to Gomis Mta, at an elevation of over 2,000 meters, where the mountains often rise above the clouds, the sunsets and sunrises are otherworldly, and at night the sky seems much closer than usual. We’ll venture further away from the village, to a place where there are no tourists, to enjoy the silence of the night under the stars.
The main reason for this trip is the Perseid meteor shower. These are the very “shooting stars” that you can finally see with your own eyes—lying in the mountains with a cup of hot cocoa in your hands, sitting by the campfire, and gazing up at the truly dark mountain sky.
Our naturalist will lead an astronomy tour: he’ll point out the constellations, explain where meteors come from, teach you how to navigate the night sky, share the legends associated with the stars, and help you observe planets, star clusters, and other fascinating celestial objects through a telescope.
And during the day, the mountains await us: a sea of clouds at sunset, views of the Main Caucasus Range, and on the second day—a hike to Lake Chinchau, alpine flowers, and more Tour Leaderd tours led by a naturalist, mountain scenery, and, if we’re lucky, newts in the lake.
You can spend the night in a tent, or you can choose a cabin. That’s why this trip is perfect for both camping enthusiasts and those who love the mountains but aren’t fans of tents.
We'll make the morning after our nighttime observations as cozy as possible.
This time, breakfast won't just be plain old camping oatmeal. We've decided to treat ourselves—and you—to croissants, fresh coffee, and a peaceful morning in nature.
We have breakfast in a clearing, watch the mountains wake up, and take our time—no more than necessary.
Level 1 difficulty—what does that mean?
We’ve set two difficulty levels for this tour, since you can choose not to go on the second day’s hike and instead stay at camp or near the car to rest and wait for the group. If you choose this option, you won’t need any special physical preparation. If you’re going on the second day’s hike, see below:
Level 2 difficulty—what does that mean?
You can tackle these trails even without hiking experience, but you need to be in good shape. The trail typicallyinvolves up to 500 m of elevation gain and is about 12 km long.
