A two-day space trip

Astronomy Trip to See Meteors

Observing the Perseid meteor shower, a naturalist-led tour of the starry sky, viewing the planets through a telescope, a visit to the astrophysical observatory in Abastumani
+
two mountain passes, camping in tents, a beautiful road, cliffs, a mountain lake, a sea of clouds, short hikes, and great company

The main highlight of this trip is that we'll be exploring space. Of course, during the day we’ll be sightseeing in the region.

And we'll spend the night watching the Perseid meteor shower and going on an astronomy tour.

On the morning of the second day, we'll go to the observatory. We won't be going to the observatory at night, since meteors can't be observed through a telescope, but we'll be able to see the planets shown during the nighttime tour at the observatory through our own telescope.

If you've never seen a "shooting star," there's a very good chance you'll get to see one with us.

Get your wishes ready so you have time to make them.

program
Day One: Hiking
We arrive at the campsite. We have lunch and go hiking. The total route is about 10 km, with a slight elevation gain of 100–150 m.
You have the option to skip the hike and stay at the camp.
The evening of the first day. Astrotour
When it gets dark, we’ll gaze at the stars from an altitude of 2,200 m.
We’ll observe the Perseid meteor shower—those very “shooting stars”—while listening to stories about space from our naturalist and looking through a telescope. We’ll learn how to navigate the night sky.

We’ll spend the night in tents.
Day Two: The Observatory

We'll have breakfast at the camp, then head out on a tour of Georgia's only observatory.

The price of the tour is included in the cost of the trip.

Day Two. A mountain lake where salamanders live

We're heading home.

The next stop will be a small but very picturesque mountain lake. The water there is cold and crystal clear. You’ll be able to go for a swim.

The trail is short, but to get to the lake, you have to climb up and down a steep slope.

Distance: 2 km.

Elevation gain: about 150 m.

We're heading home.

Level 1 difficulty—what does that mean?

You can hike these trails even without any hiking experience, but you need to be in good physical shape. The trail isn't very long and doesn't involve a significant elevation gain.

But don't forget that this is still a hike in the mountains.

The scale is relative; use the distance and elevation gain as a guide.
